Upcoming Meetings & Events

Posted in Fish Outs, Meetings on July 15, 2009 by flyfishidaho

3724914244_84001d8c65_mWe still have quite a few events & meetings coming up over the summer months.  Below we have outlined the meeting agendas as well as the next couple of fish-outs.

Our meetings will be slightly different than in the past.  As always, the fly tying presentation will start at 6:30pm.  At 7:00pm we will jump right into the presentation by our guest speaker.  After the presentation is concluded we will have announcements, discuss club business, and have our drawings.

Summer Meetings

July 16 – Geoff & Nate Brumley of Dry Fly Innovations will be at the meeting to demonstrate some of their fish-catching dry fly patterns as well as discuss their usage.

August 20 – We will be having an informal casting clinic for all members.  Learn some tricks or teach a few.  This is a low key “by the members – for the members” clinic.

September 17 – Dan Schill PhD, Fisheries Research Manager for the Idaho Department of Fish & Game, is planning to speak at our meeting.  Dan has a presentation on native Redband trout in the state of Idaho.

Fish-Outs

July 25 – Owyhee River

August 29-30 – Middle Fork of the Boise River

September 12-13 – Owyhee River

Gone Fishing

Posted in Fish Outs, General, Special Events on June 11, 2009 by flyfishidaho

gonefishingWe’re going to take a bit of a hiatus and actually try to get out and doing some fishing rather than just talking about.  It isn’t going to be a long break so please make sure you check back around June 22nd for new updates.

In the meantime check out one of the many things happening over the next ten days.

-          June 13 & 14: FFI Brownlee Reservoir Fish-Out

-          June 13: South Fork of the Boise River clean up.  Planned meeting time is between 8:00 – 9:00AM at the Reclamation Village area across from the Village boat ramp (Reclamation Village is about two miles below Anderson Ranch Dam).  Prizes awarded for the most trash picked up & the strangest item found.  Please RSVP by email or phone to mtoalson@cableone.net or 899-8612 and provide your email & phone if you can make it so they can get a headcount for refreshments and lunch.  Please wear long pants and shirt, gloves recommended, & good footwear. All tools and supplies will be provided by US Forest Service but you are welcome to bring your own.

-          June 19: FFI club picnic (click here for details)

-          The Trout Lie has posted a new fishing report as of June 11th.  Sounds like the Brown Drakes are heating on Sliver Creek.

-          Check out Greg Montemurro’s article on the Anatomy of the Refusal.

-          According to an article is today’s Idaho Statesman Idaho Fish & Game is shutting down the spring Chinook season on the North Fork of the Clearwater & from the mouth of the Clearwater River to the Orofino Bridge as of tonight.

Duck Valley Restoration Work & Fish-Out this Weekend (May 16th & 17th)

Posted in Fish Outs on May 12, 2009 by flyfishidaho

Duck Valley

May 16th & 17th are the dates for the club’s Duck Valley Fish-Out at Mountain View Reservoir.  This year we are also partnering with the tribe and other local organizations to work on restoring some local grounds, etc.  If you are looking to get out of town this weekend, here is your opportunity to contribute in one of the club’s conservation projects.

Now…if that doesn’t motivate you, this is also a Fish-Out.  Although there is high water everywhere and turbid reservoirs, given recent reports it looks like Duck Valley is fishing VERY well.
